Helping you stay first!
Spirent was the first to deliver VDSL physical layer
test equipment. The tradition of first to market VDSL test support
continues with the most comprehensive set of conformance and performance
analysis tools available today. Whatever test you design, you can
be assured that Spirent is actively involved in the development
of any new VDSL standard within the Key standard bodies of ANSI,
ETSI, ITU-T and DSL Forum.
Spirent Simulators are the choice of chipset, network
equipment manufacturers, carriers and independent test labs looking
for test equipment that easily provides the lab with flexible, standards-based
wireline simulation. (e.g. FS-VDSL Physical Layer Specification
for Interoperable VDSL Systems Rev R3 December 2001-required test
equipment table1) Spirent also offers an integrated modular test
platform that includes layer 2 and 3 traffic generation and analysis
on top of Layer 1 wireline and impairment simulation.
Providing Data, VoIP, VoD and Ethernet First Mile -
Copper Services to a subscriber over copper requires pushing the
limits, both of circuit design and algorithms, for data compression,
error correction, and echo cancellation. Only Spirent provides the
accuracy at the edge of performance that premier design teams need
to stay confidently ahead of the pack.
Spirent’s solution packages are built around scenarios
the ILEC’s expect your equipment to pass before they’ll buy. Spirent
delivers VDSL test infrastructure more accurately and more completely
than anyone else. We hold these values highly. They’ve kept Spirent
first in VDSL testing so you can be first in VDSL delivery

The Wireline
Simulation: The core of any lab's VDSL 24 AWG or 26 AWG
ANSI loop test platform will include the DLS 8100 chassis loaded
with a selection of the following:
|
> DLS-8A01
|
24 AWG (TP2) wireline
cards. Variable from 700’-5150’ in 50’increments with
or without a 50’ fixed TP1 Bridged Tap on the
NT side).
|
|
> DLS-8A02
|
26 AWG (TP1) wireline
cards. Variable from 700’- 5150’in 50’increments with
or without a 50’ fixed Tp1 Bridged Tap on the
NT side).
|
| > DLS-8A03 |
3000’ 24/26
AWG wireline extension package. Extends the reach of the
DLS-8A01 and/or DLS-8A02 to 8150 ‘ in 50’
increments. |
| > DLS-8A04 |
(Optional) Balances
the line impedance between the DLS 8100 (100Ohm) and a
spectrum analyzer (50Ohm). (Typically 2 per DLS 8100 required). |
VDSL chipset and modem data rates
are very sensitive to bridged taps. To assist data rate performance
testing, Spirent has developed the DLS 8110 VDSL Variable
Bridged Tap Simulator (26AWG). Used with the DLS 8100 or DLS
8111 VDSL Wireline Simulator, the DLS 8110 helps to provide
test loops that include variable bridged taps with 10’
increments up to 250’ Requiring even more flexibility? The
DLS 8105 offers 5’ increments up to 250’.
For Labs testing in shorter reaches
and small increments such as can be found in FTTx applications,
a DLS 8111 tester helps to provide (26AWG) VDSL testloops
which covers the bandwidth continuously from DC to 30 Mhz
up to 250’ in 10’ increments. The DLS 8111 can
be combined with additional DLS 8111’s DLS 8100's and DLS
8110's providing for more complex cable and bridged tap combinations
to allow for comprehensive testing.
The Noise Impairment Generator.
ANSI VDSL based physical layer simulation includes the generation
and application of noise impairments to the testloop. Generation
of DLS or customer supplied noise such as NEXT, FEXT, White
Noise, Impulse noise, AM RFI and Amateur Radio RFI is accomplished
by the DLS 5200 xDSL & Custom Noise Generator or by Spirent's
new DLS 5204 xDSL & Custom 4 Output Noise Generator. Application
of the generated noise is made directly from the noise generator
to the wireline via the "external noise" input of
the DLS 8100.
The Traffic Generation & Analysis.
Addition of a DSLAM and Modem complete the physical layer.
Now packets or traffic can be generated and analyzed at both
ends using a SmartBits 600/6000. Using the unique capabilities
of the Ethernet, ATM, and POS, SmartBits™ allows for
unparalleled, end-to-end stability, frame loss, and latency
performance measurements up to full wire rate.

Production testing
requires wireline simulation and traffic generation equipment
that can be easily controlled by custom Automated Test Environments.
This allows for fast Go/ NoGO testing in a manufacturing environment.
Spirent has extended its popular family of DLS 6000 production
wireline simulators to include the DLS 6400. The DLS 6400 single
line VDSL tester is available in two flavours:
| > DLS 6426 |
1U chassis. Includes
an ANSI 26AWG (TP1) wireline package. Variable from 0,
1500 to 7500 feet in 500-foot increments. Bandwidth: DC
- 16MHz. |
| > DLS 6410 |
1U chassis that will
simulate ETSI TP100 wireline. Variable from 0, 500-300m,
200-1500m (250m incr.) |
DLS 6500 Multi-line VDSL /
DSLAM production wireline simulator is scheduled for release
in the fall of 2002. This simulator will provide up to 24
