(Socorro, NM) RTLinux/Pro
1.1 Development kit released for Force Computers PowerPC based boards
(Socorro NM) FSMLabs
Inc. announces the immediate availability of the RTLinux/Pro 1.1
Development Kit for Force Computers PowerPC based boards. The RTLinux/Pro
Development Kit includes cross-compilation tools, a target filesystem,
tested and stable Linux as well as RTLinux/Pro powered by the industry
leading hard real-time RTCore[tm] system.
RTCore provides a
POSIX API for components needing precise timing and runs Linux or
BSD as the fully preemptible "application platform" thread. Applications
are split between the real-time components that run directly under
the RTCore OS and other components that run in the unmodified Linux
environment. Linux provides a small footprint high performance and
highly portable OS platform for the non-real-time components of
real-time applications. Combined with the lower power
consumption, high processing capacity and low interrupt latency
of the PowerPC, the Force boards and RTLinux/Pro offer developers
a fast path to shipping products.
FSMLabs Product Manager
Matt Sherer said: "RTCore on the Force boards has been in our testing
program for nearly a month now and has demonstrated some amazing
determinism and stability". Sherer notes that the 400MHz PowerPC
board has shown a worst-case periodic scheduling jitter of less
than 32 micro-seconds under extremely heavy load.
About RTCore and
RTLinux/Pro
RTCore is the kernel of RTLinux/Pro
and RTCore/BSD: the ruggedized commercial license version of FSMLabs
RTLinux hard-realtime operating system. RTCore supports the IA32
(Intel, AMD) architectures, most PowerPC variants, MIPS, ARM, and
Alpha including multiprocessor PowerPC and IA32. The RTCore technology
can bring hard real-time to memory limited low-power embedded boards
and to multiprocessor VME racks. The unique "decoupled" programming
method brings the UNIX component model and standard POSIX APIs to
real-time systems, and the patented technology brings unprecedented
performance to off-the-shelf hardware.
